Continuing Education at OpenEd provides innovative, high-quality professional development programs that reflect the unique teaching expertise and research strengths of the University of Guelph. We offer over 100 courses delivered to students in 26 countries, creating a network of learners who bring a rich, diverse cultural experience to our courses and programs.
The English Language Programs at OpenEd offer English language learners an opportunity to develop their vocabulary, academic skills and overall understanding of Canadian culture.
Our programs have been developed to meet the English language requirements of international students entering undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the University of Guelph.
The Open Learning program--an open admission, distance-only mode of study--provides access to online degree-credit university courses. The program is well suited for individuals looking to study independently but not currently interested in pursuing a degree. The Open Learning program extends the academic resources of the University to those interested in personal enrichment, professional development or eventual application to a degree program. You may also register in the Open Learning program to satisfy program requirements from other post-secondary institutions.
Open Learning and Educational Support offers a wide selection of distance education (DE) courses from a variety of disciplines. Delivered entirely online, DE courses are designed with flexibility in mind. Since there are no scheduled classes to attend, you can take advantage of studying at a time and place that is convenient for you, from anywhere in the world.
Classroom Technical Support's primary focus is the learning environment in the University's centrally-reserved classrooms.
We have two AV service counters for classroom support, and portable AV equipment for loan and rental.
We also support special events, videoconferencing and departmental rooms. We install and service AV equipment.
The Educational Development unit at OpenEd supports the University of Guelph's instructors and academic programs as they continually improve their teaching practices and the quality of student learning outcomes and experiences. In addition to offering a variety of workshops and individual consultations on teaching and learning, the unit provides facilitative leadership on program-level curriculum initiatives, teaching conferences, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
The Teaching & Learning Technologies unit develops, administers and supports a wide range of educational technology throughout the University of Guelph community, including CourseLink, which provides web space and tools for credit courses and non-credit websites. We design, develop and support online courses for OpenEd's online programs and consult on the successful integration of technology--online and in the classroom.
