MOU Signing with Chungbuk National University

On the morning of November 5, 2024, the University of Guelph (U of G) and Chungbuk National University (CBNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the U of G main campus. This new partnership will strengthen the connection between CBNU students and the English Language Programs at U of G.

“Chungbuk National University has had a continuous student presence in our English Language Programs both before and after the pandemic,” recalls David Siefker, ELP business development and program manager. “Now that the MOU has been signed, we hope to broaden our relationship with more opportunities to offer different English Language support and programs. This will present a wonderful opportunity for both institutions to promote internationalism.”

CBNU has some similarities with U of G—including Colleges of Agriculture, Veterinarian Science, Social Science, and Engineering. Research is conducted in the Colleges of Agriculture and Business with graduate degrees (master's and PhD) available in those fields. Additionally, CBNU has an Office of International Affairs, robust Exchange and Study Abroad programs, and has signed multiple MOUs with institutions around the world.

The visit with CBNU administrators included a tour of campus, an ELP classroom observation, and document signing. The MOU was signed by Dr. You, Tae-Soo, dean, Chungbuk National University Office of International Affairs, and Dr. Dianne Tyers, assistant vice president, School of Continuing Studies, University of Guelph.

“We are thrilled to continue welcoming Chungbuk National University students to the University of Guelph,” says Dr. Tyers. “Their ongoing interest in the English language programs and pathways at U of G validates our efforts to offer the best in English language learning. This renewal of our partnership encourages us to remain steadfast in our commitment to grow and advance these programs so we can continue to exceed the expectations of our international learners.”

Others from U of G in attendance at the signing ceremony include Carolyn Creighton, interim co-director, OpenEd, and representatives from both the English Language Programs and Chungbuk National University.

The University of Guelph looks forward to continuing to welcome CBNU students in Winter 2025.
