MOU signing

On March 28, 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the University of Guelph (U of G) and Chungbuk National University in South Korea. The new partnership will focus on giving Chungbuk students the opportunity to enrol in English Language Programs (ELP) at U of G.

“International partnerships improve the overall experience of internationalism on campus and in the greater Guelph community,” explains Julian Inglis, ELP business development and program manager. “We are hopeful that this collaboration will lead to greater opportunities between these two institutions in the future.”

Both U of G and Chungbuk National University began as agricultural colleges prior to becoming nationally recognized universities. The many similarities between institutions makes for a strong partnership. Oakville International Students and Scholars (OISS) has been instrumental in bringing the two institutions together and creating successful partnerships in South Korea.

“During my visit to Chungbuk University last fall, I recognized the strong potential for a collaboration between our two universities,” says Inglis. “We are pleased to return their hospitality and host president Su-Kab Kim, Dr. Jae-Hoon Hwang, and the rest of the Chungbuk delegation.”

The MOU was signed by Chungbuk National University president Su-Kab Kim, and University of Guelph provost and vice-president (academic), Charlotte Yates.

In attendance from U of G were Daniel Atlin, vice-president (external), Cate Dewey, associate vice-president (academic), Michelle Fach, executive director, Open Learning and Education Support, and representatives from the English Language Programs.

The University of Guelph is looking forward to welcoming the first group of Chungbuk students in Fall 2019.
