Creating Landscapes Transition Pathways

Information for Existing Creating Landscapes Certificate and Diploma Students

Effective September 1, 2019, the Creating Landscapes Certificate and Creating Landscapes Diploma will be phased out to make way for the new Landscape Design Certificate and Diploma programs. The programs will officially be discontinued December 31, 2024.

If you have successfully completed one or more courses within the Creating Landscapes Certificate and/or Creating Landscapes Diploma prior to September 1, 2019, the following options are available to you:

Continue your studies towards your intended certificate/diploma and apply for the certificate prior to December 31, 2021 and the diploma prior to December 31, 2024
Students Who Have Successfully Completed All Six Courses Within the Creating Landscapes Certificate as of September 1, 2019

Option A: Apply for Your Creating Landscapes Certificate

If you have successfully completed all six required courses within the Creating Landscapes Certificate as of September 1, 2019, you are eligible to apply to receive your parchment and graduate with a Creating Landscapes Certificate. Your last date to apply is December 31, 2021.

Option B: Begin or Continue Your Studies Towards the Creating Landscapes Diploma

If you have graduated with a Creating Landscapes Certificate and would like to begin or continue your studies towards the Creating Landscapes Diploma, you may do so. Upon successful completion of all 10 required courses, you are eligible to apply to receive your parchment. Your last date to apply for the Creating Landscapes Diploma is December 31, 2024.

Table 1 will help you to identify and register in the courses you need to complete the Creating Landscapes Diploma. The first column indicates the current required course and the second column indicates the new required course pathway. If you have not completed the required course indicated in the first column, look for the replacement or alternate course in the second column.

Students Who Have Successfully Completed One to Five Creating Landscapes Certificate Courses as of September 1, 2019

Option A:  Continue Working Towards the Creating Landscapes Certificate

If you have successfully completed one to five Creating Landscapes Certificate courses as of September 1, 2019, you can continue working towards the Creating Landscapes Certificate. Upon successful completion of all five courses, you are eligible to apply to receive your parchment. Your last date to apply for the Creating Landscapes Certificate is December 31, 2021.

Option B: Continue Your Studies Towards the Creating Landscapes Diploma

If you have completed one to five courses prior to September 1, 2019, you can continue to complete the Creating Landscapes Diploma. Upon successful completion of the 10 required courses, you are eligible to apply to receive your parchment. Your last date to apply for the Creating Landscapes Diploma is December 31, 2024.

Table 2 will help you to identify and register in the courses you need to complete the Creating Landscapes Certificate or Diploma. The first column indicates the current required course and the second column indicates the new required course pathway. If you have not completed the required course indicated in the first column, look for the replacement or alternate course in the second column.

Transition to the New Landscape Design Certificate and Landscape Design Diploma

If you have successfully completed one to five Creating Landscapes Certificate courses as of September 1, 2019, you can apply those courses to the New Landscape Design Certificate and Landscape Design Diploma launching in September 2019. 

Before deciding on transitioning to the new Landscape Design Certificate and Landscape Design Diploma, review the new program requirements:

  • Landscape Design Certificate
  • Landscape Design Diploma

Table 3 will help you to identify and register in the courses you need to complete the transition to the new certificate and diploma program. The first column indicates the current required courses and the second column indicates the new required course pathway. If you have not completed the courses in the first column, look for the replacement or alternate course in the second column.

Graduating with an Area of Focus

You can take one additional course and graduate with an area of focus: Greenhouse Production, Natural Landscape Management, Nursery Production, Urban Agriculture or Turf Management. Your area of focus will appear on your parchment.

If you have not successfully completed any required courses within the Creating Landscapes Certificate and or Creating Landscapes Diploma prior to September 1, 2019, you will not be able to initiate studies in this program. The alternative is to begin your studies in the new Landscape Design Certificate or Diploma program, beginning September 1, 2019.
