COVID-19 Update: April 1, 2020

Summer Semester Course Delivery

The University of Guelph continues to closely monitor the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that members of the U of G community are concerned, and we want to assure everyone that we take this situation very seriously and are doing everything we can to ensure the health and safety of our campus community. It is obvious that physical distancing is key to reducing the spread of this disease.

We are announcing major decisions that will affect students, faculty and staff at all three of our campuses. We believe this is best for our University community.

At this point in time, all face-to-face course delivery will be cancelled until Aug. 15, 2020. Undergraduate, graduate and associate diploma courses planned in this delivery mode will proceed only in an alternate format. Final exams for the summer semester will also be conducted in a modified format.

Support will be offered to faculty and instructors to help deliver courses in alternate formats. Faculty members and instructors will, of course, have decision-making discretion and options and are encouraged to communicate with their deans and department chairs regarding this process.

We extend personal thanks to our faculty, staff and students for your patience, cooperation and understanding during this unprecedented challenge.

Open Learning Program and Degree-credit Online Students

Online degree-credit courses will also be cancelled March 16 and will resume Monday, March 23. Students will continue to have access to course content via CourseLink; however, assessment dates will be adjusted and conducted in a modified format. Information regarding changes to final assessments will be posted as soon as it is available on the OpenEd Final Exams page.

The University of Guelph continues to work collaboratively with several agencies—including Public Health—to determine the appropriate response to COVID-19.

Please keep in mind that this is an evolving situation and things can change very quickly. The University will continue to monitor developments and post updates to the COVID-19 page. We will update you on any decisions that impact your registration in courses and/or conferences as soon as possible.

Assignments

U of G assignments currently scheduled between March 16 to 20 will be postponed by one week and due seven days later.

Midterm examinations scheduled between March 16 to 20 are also postponed by one week and will be replaced by an alternate form of assessment.

Faculty are asked to please devise alternatives to their previously scheduled midterms. If instructors wish to use the same examination as originally planned, but using remote invigilation, please consult the information on the Respondus system. Students will receive information about the format of the examination from their instructor.

Continuing Education Students

Students currently completing non-credit, face-to-face courses offered through OpenEd will be notified directly regarding the impact this will have on their courses. Please review OpenEd’s updated Withdrawal, Transfer, and Refund Policy regarding COVID-19.

Face-to-face classes and/or conferences with start dates prior to Aug 15, 2020 have been cancelled or post-poned. All impacted registrants will be contacted directly.

Online courses will continue to run as scheduled, with no interruptions to delivery.
